words 2008 will take place at The Mitchell Library in Glasgow from 9-13 September 2008
words 2008 is an interactive exhibition based on new work from the Edwin Morgan Centre for Creative Writing at Glasgow University. The exhibition is unique in that it takes the normally solitary process of writing out into the public domain. By doing so, words 2008 aims both to promote new talent in Scotland and to engage a wide range of people with contemporary writing.
The exhibition's goal is to involve as wide a cross-section of the public as possible with creative process and with the writers who will also share the skills they've learnt at the Edwin Morgan Centre with the wider community. This will be done through a series of prose and poetry workshops, live readings and writer-in-residence slots.
In addition, the exhibition will feature a short film and a series of special events based on specific projects. There will also be a reading room at the exhibition, featuring an extensive collection of as yet unpublished work by new writers, as well as an art installation inspired by the writing, which will be produced by the Glasgow-basedpublic artist Nicola Atkinson www.nadfly.com.
A collection of short stories by this year’s graduating students, Let’s Pretend – 37 stories about (in)fidelity will be previewed during the exhibition.
