Brown ‘unlikely to be leader by election’
|
| BROWN: Unhappy? |
Douglas Fraser: "What's Labour's position on a referendum today?"
Gordon Brown is unlikely to lead the Labour Party into the next General Election and is "tragically" unhappy in his role as Prime Minister, according to Frank Field, the Labour MP who is leading back-bench opposition to the abolition of the 10p tax rate.
Mr Field's vicious attack on the PM, claiming that he suffered from tempers of an "indescribable nature" and that he could be brought low by a defeat on the 10p tax band, led to warnings from ministers that Labour is in danger of spiralling into backstabbing that could to engulf the party.
Mr Field, who was once asked to "think the unthinkable" as a Welfare Reform Minister, said the unsayable. Despite rock-bottom poll ratings and a slew of character assassinations of Mr Brown in the recent memoirs of Tony Blair's inner circle, no-one on the government benches has yet suggested openly that the Prime Minister stand down to help Labour recover its electoral standing.
But Mr Field, predicting that the next election would almost certainly be at the latest possible opportunity in two years' time, said he would be "very surprised" if Mr Brown was still leader then.
He went on to describe Mr Brown's premiership as a tragedy. "Somebody whose real aim in life was to be Prime Minister, now has the task and seems to be so lacking in enjoyment in trying to carry it out," said Mr Field.
He urged Mr Brown to talk to loved ones about his political future and act on their advice - the clear inference being that he should resign.
Mr Field, who blames Mr Brown for his dismissal as a minister a decade ago, said he needed no persuading that the Prime Minister could be "testy" and "go off like a bloody volcano", as described by John Prescott in his recently serialised memoirs.
But Mr Field said people would not judge Mr Brown on memoirs but on the way
he currently appeared to the public.
"The awful fact that's coming across is that he's so unhappy in himself," he said. "I think everybody in the country who's watched a news clip with the Prime Minister on recognises that."
The exchange comes as Mr Brown prepares for a fightback centred around a draft Queen's Speech and amid further damaging disclosures in the memoirs of Cherie Blair, John Prescott and Lord Levy, Tony Blair's former fundraiser. Lord Levy attacked Mr Brown again yesterday claiming he did not show the "leadership necessary in a Prime Minister".
While Mr Brown's official spokesman insisted the Prime Minister would not be distracted by personality politics, the counter attack was led by Ed Balls, the Schools Minister and close ally of the Prime Minister.
Mr Balls was just as vicious in describing Mr Field as a loner and suggesting he was acting dishonourably, in an attempt to separate him from other Labour MPs who have joined the rebellion on the 10p tax rate.
Speaking at a media briefing, Mr Balls said: "I think people could look at what he was saying a few weeks ago and believe at that time that his intentions were honourable.
"As for what he said this morning I think I leave you to draw your own conclusions from that."
Mr Balls did not reserve his frankness for the government's enemies. He admitted that Labour was "behind the curve" on family finance policy and had focused too much on the international situation during last autumn's credit crunch instead of the effect on British families.
He also admitted the government had to sort out the 10p tax row "quickly" in order to win back the trust of voters.
However Mr Balls felt there was little likelihood of the government ever coming up with a solution that would satisfy Mr Field.
Mr Field said the removal of the 10p rate, announced by Mr Brown in his last Budget as Chancellor in 2007, had caused greater anger on the Labour back benches than he had ever previously seen.
"If we don't get a satisfactory deal, I think there's enough members on the Labour back benches who will, with others, block the Budget going through," he said.
"That will make his (Mr Brown's) position intolerable."

Gordon Broon is pathalogically flawed and a control freak. Everytime there is trouble, Broon runs away and hides in the Downing Street toilet bit like Hitler hiding in the bunker. Churchill on the other hand was out on the streets during the blitz making rousing speeches.

wow good on Mr field although i have to say why didnt field come out with this at the time that it was announced that the 10p rate was going to be abolished.
Truth is that they are all terrified now that their seats are going to be weechd from under their behinds. labour has an outside chance of winning the election if they give brown the boot now and reinstate the 10p tax band. However i dont think they will.

In an objective scale, Mr Brown is now reaping his own harvest of his numerous financial errors and mis-steps e.g. selling UK gold reserves at low prices, dismantling banking regulations, raiding and destroying pension funds of millions, financing the Iraq War, bankrupting his own Party, allowing on his watch, a debt-balloon economy in to inflate some 300% housing costs and now facing doubling energy, road fuel and food costs while only a few months ago he was claiming inflation was below his target of 2% and then raises millions of people of his own core voters from a tax rate of 10% to 20%!
On the subjective scale, Brown scuttled into the Lisbon Treaty signing when all the major European leaders had left, he did not even phone Alec Salmond for months if he even has yet, and Mr Brown never called Vladimir Putin in all his time left in office of President of the Russian Federation. Social Inhibition problems?
Then Mr Brown in ultimate denial claims that Wendy Alexander never said what millions heard her say on TV!
Carry on Labour. Bring it on!

Go on Gordon! - you show them you're still in charge - ask the Queen to dissolve Parliament and watch all your labour buddies sh1t themselves. You can stand at Westminster’s door and hand out the P45’s. This might ease the pain of getting your own P45 and being shown the door to political oblivion.

When backbenchers realise that with Brown in charge they could lose their seats at the next election, then he will be forced to go.
It is also a possibility that Brown himself will lose his seat as opinion in his own constituency is moving against him.
I cant see him in charge of the Labour Party for very much longer.

The problem with Labour, both in Scotland and the UK, is that it's now getting personal. It's no longer about policy, it's persistently about leadership. Brown's leadership and Alexander's leadership. You can easily tell that it's nearing the end for both of them. They may survive these latest attacks, but the next wave will be stronger, then the next, and so on until the party can take no more.
Interestingly enough, it's Alexander who has fatally wounded Brown, because he has been forced to discuss 'Scottish' issues at the high profile PMQs. Any Scottish issue immediately reminds English MPs that there are too many Scots with influence at Westminster, which now largely presides over English policy. On top of that they see Scots in charge at Westminster and a Scottish Government delivering more favorable policies in Scotland, and the two are immediately connected. Even though nothing could be further from the truth. Brown's 'Scotchness' is another nail in the coffin of the PM.
Brown ‘unlikely to be leader by election’
Please no. We need Wendy and Gordon as the axis of imbecile at the next election.
With Frank Field and Wendy Alexander we're getting internal Labour feuding being played out in the national media. The Labour MP's and MSP's can see their seats and salaries slipping away and loyalty has its limits. We can only hope that Gordon and Wendy survive to 2010.
Frank Field's voting record from theyworkforyou.com Not such a good guy after all but you could say that about any Labour MP.
How Frank Field voted on key issues since 2001:
* Voted strongly for a transparent Parliament. votes, speeches
* Voted moderately against introducing a smoking ban. votes, speeches
* Voted moderately for introducing ID cards. votes, speeches
* Voted moderately for introducing foundation hospitals. votes, speeches
* Voted strongly for introducing student top-up fees. votes, speeches
* Voted moderately for Labour's anti-terrorism laws. votes, speeches
* Voted very strongly for the Iraq war. votes, speeches
* Voted very strongly against an investigation into the Iraq war. votes, speeches
* Voted very strongly for replacing Trident. votes, speeches
* Voted very strongly for the hunting ban. votes, speeches
* Voted moderately for equal gay rights. votes, speeches
He urged Mr Brown to talk to loved ones about his political future and act on their advice...
That'll be Gordon talking to his Balls, Yvette and Ed.

1279, "bundle of twigs bound up," from O.Fr. **** "bundle of sticks," from It. faggotto, dim. of V.L. *facus, from L. fascis "bundle of wood" (see fasces). Esp. used for burning heretics (a sense attested from 1555), so that phrase fire and **** was used to mean "punishment of a heretic." Heretics who recanted were required to wear an embroidered figure of a **** on their sleeve, as an emblem and reminder of what they deserved.

1. "You never comment on the topic" = a lie
2. "You just make bitchy, sarcastic , little remarks about other posters." = a lie combined with a certain lack of personal insight!

Wullie very occasionally you can hit the nail on the head. Most of the the time we'd like to hit you on the head. You are nothing but an embarrassment to the SNP, to Aberdeen and to yourself. Do Scotland and yourself a favour and shut the f*** up now and for evermore.
As for Churchill, he was an alcoholic manic depressive who happened to have 4 good years. The rest of his career was a disaster for the entire working class throughout the UK. The slaughter at Gallipoli was his c*ck-up, he was the guy who sent troops to Glasgow in 1919 and as for his role during the General Strike..... If ever history was kind to a guy, it was him. Trust the english to laud him as some kind of hero....

Mrs Carnwich said at 11.29pm and 11.55pm
''Stop being such a waste of space Wullie!'' and
''What does your weird fantasy life have to do with the story?''
1.Hmmm, let me see. Mrs Carwitch = a liar .
2.Mrs Carwitch = a sarcastic ****.
I rest my case. Now run along there's a good girl.

Animated, sequantisised and computerized
through a blinding winds of avidity
Synthetised, robotized and dehumanized
hybriding flesh with technology
Relapse of a lecherous humanity
Contemptuous cupidity
Rigor sustains charity
mass degradation almost completed
Eulogized, neurologised...ascet
isised
a world emaciated by malevolence
Materialised, idealised...monopoli
sed
violate greed and senses
Unto the surviving humanity
...the final epitaph
Caustic depression of avidity
the cyberwar is coming
Countdown to imminent annihilation
Effluvium of cupidity
Dreary hopes of emptiness
cyberwar is the answer

Gordon Brown - The Strangler
Gordon Brown, tax me, go on!
Take my money - almost all gone!
With New Labour in,
We'll just never win.
Ever a frown, with Gordon Brown.
Every new budget hurts like the last.
Mortgage relief ends very fast.
Fate? That's one in The Eye,
Flush? I'm sunk...high and dry.
Interest rates never down, with Gordon Brown.
Gordon Brown found a temptress,
Wed at last, she in a naff dress.
Shhhhhh! The damned tight-fisted git,
Even spent nowt on it.
Why, he'll never go down, with Sarah Brown.

Gordon Brown wearing a frown
Under my skin getting me down
No where to hide
Just a thorn in my side
Always a frown with Gordon Brown
Every time just like the last
words are said right from the past
the conclusions the same
I’m always in pain
Always a frown with Gordon Brown
Gordon Brown’s Labour is dead
Serving the rich has gone to his head
Screwing the poor
Always his law
Always a frown with Gordon Brown
Gordon Brown wearing a frown
Under my skin getting me down
No where to hide

Y Blodyn Pinc
To TANNENBAUM
Our symbol now is palest pink,
This song should make you stop and think.
Jim Connell's one is growing old,
It's time to sing of purest gold.
So work like slaves and don't ask why, [Chorus]
The money god we'll deify.
Though theorists preach and lefties jeer,
We'll keep the pink rose growing here.
Look round, the Tory loves to gaze,
The stock exchange now sings its praise,
In money's vaults its hymns are sung;
Accountants swell the surging throng.
It waves above from some great height,
You know this perfumed flower's right
To slay the movement's sacred cow,
We're sure to change their colours now.
So let's forget the triumphs past,
And bury brotherhood at last
The coins are bright, the symbol plain,
For money's right and money's gain.
Now let us join the weak and base,
And merge with them in their good race
To become the rich man's clown,
One day we think we'll wear his crown.
So kneel we down and swear we all,
The Stock Exchange shall hear our call;
And though I know you think we're dim,
This song shall be our parting hymn.

''shut the f*** up now and for evermore''.
So you dont believe in freedom of speech then ? You want everyone to be like sheep and post the same banal, inane comments that everyone else does. That would be dull and boring bit like Stalin's Russia. Is that what you want ? You dont want people to hold a different point of view, is that it ?

Now, back to the story - is Brown payign the price for his failure to suppress the growth of the Pelagian heresy in South Amish country? Well, it is more relevant that Wullie's attempts.

Only one wrecker here Wullie and that's you, perhaps you are really deep-cover BNP along with PtbS?
Strange you should mention Stalin, if it wasn't for that fine chap and the wonderful people he had the honour to lead, your cigar puffing, brandy-swilling enemy of the people would have had a very different end. Thank Uncle Joe and the Red Army that we aren't having this conversation in German. Churchill was merely a bit player.

''Stalin, if it wasn't for that fine chap''
Aye, Stalin who signed a non aggression pact with Hitler in 1939.
Invaded and carved up Poland with Hitler.
Invaded free Latvia , Estonia , Lithuania and Finland.
Murdered thousands of Polish officers in the Katyn forest in 1940.
Killed thousands of the Red Army officer class in show trials in the 1930s.
Threw millions of people into the Gulag

Why have you chosen a moniker which has hidden your sexuality ?
Are you ashamed of being a woman ? Do you think if you wrote under a woman's name, no one would take your views seriously. Is that it ?

Can the Herald explain why comments are being continual banned from story's relating to Wendy Alexander.
Can you confirm/deny rumours that Scottish Labour are making complaints to the Herald to try and minimise open discussion and criticism of her policies?
I think the blogging community on these threads really deserves some kind of explanation here.

I was going to post this on the Wendy thread but given
that the Scottish Pravda has censored it I guess
this thread will have to do :
--- BREAKING NEWS ---
Yet another U-turn by Wendy, she had previously
said that she would never dance a Scottish Jig
for Alex Salmond, but she has now u-turned
and resurrected the Auld Alliance with France
to compromise on a French Jig.

By not allowing comments on Wendy Alexander stories, the Herald is once again showing how closely linked it is to the Labour Party.
However, we will all still get to see that she will not demand the return of the care funds from London, just like Joke McConnel.
And no doubt because the SNP will, they are once again picking fights, and if the tories do, then we will be accused of an unholy alliance with them.
Taxi for Labour!

The Herald has re-introduced censorship of online comments. It has now been extended to other political articles and not just the Wendy 'U' turn articles.
Notice how The Herald will act to ban all comments when Labour are in turmoil but flatly ref
